Stones River National Battlefield: Light and shadow, sun and snow illumine this field of the fallen.

A glimpse of the Pennsylvania winter fields near one of my father's favorite hunting spots. Here is a classic study of sturdy oaks and snow-textured fields. Very cold! Very beautiful, too: The grey-blue of the sky, the sky-tinted snow, the russet oak leaves stubbornly holding on in the winter wind, browned grass and corn stubble, faithful evergreens on distant hill, snow-covered track leading into the waiting wonder... Enjoy!

Pennsylvania trees and fields, snowy setting. Enjoy!
Nice Pennsylvania scenery, near Grove City PA. Enjoy!
Here is a picturesque patch of field that remains green during a sudden Easter snow. The rest of the scenery is covered in a couple inches of snow [and falling], and yet this field remains green! It only adds to the scene... :-) p.s. can anyone guess why the mystery field remains green? :-)
A February day in PA... keep in mind the wonder of what you might find: a sudden snow, frosted spruce and pine, calling winter fields, a fall into Narnia! Here the scene is so Narnian that it begs for talking beavers and the roar of Aslan! but be careful on your exploration: always remember the lamppost direction! :-)
The sky is full and overflowing today... the biggest storm of the year moved in and they are calling for nearly two feet of snow by morning. The storm created a magical sky today, though, with painted scenery. Here's a shot of cattails against the whitened sky, muted field and trees -- stark witness of the beauty and portent of winter! :-) Enjoy!
Here the wind is whipping snow into the air, a frisky complement to the clouds, brisk white in the air -- airborne frost that obscures the distant trees! It's been really beautiful here, with this artic cold front, but don't let such beauty fool you! It's c..c..c..cooold, too!
I took this pic last week, and I really like it for several reasons: the white clouds and blue sky echo the patterns of snow and field, and the frame captures the frozen motion of wind and snow. Look closely and you can see the blur of snow in the air, carried by the wind across the field. In the foreground you can see the wind patterns in the snow! Symmetry and poetry, in a winter pic... :-)
Here a forest evergreen offers an artistic interpretation of the very thing that covers it: unique snowflakes! Accompanied, of course, by that new, hot nature band, the Evergreen Snowflakes! :-)
Driving on a back road today, in a beautiful snow, I was struck by the amber-colored sunset -- the foreground is in snow [the blemishes and blurs are actually falling snow] while the far background, low-flung under heavy clouds, is lit in stunning light. An amazing picture! Or should I say, an amazing setting, lol. The pic doesn't do it justice...
