A prayer for Labor Day from St. Athanasius

Yet you, Lord, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand. Isaiah 64:8

The merciful and compassionate Lord has given nourishment to those who fear him. Glory be to the Father, to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and forever throughout the ages. Almighty God and Our Lord Jesus Christ, whose name is above all things, we give you thanks and praise because you have given us a portion of your goods and nourishment for our bodies. We pray and beseech you to give us in like manner heavenly nourishment. Make us fear and reverence your law, and grant that we may never disobey your precepts. Write on our hearts your law and your justice. Sanctify our mind, our soul, and our body through your dear Son, Jesus Christ Our Lord, to whom with you belongs glory, dominion, honor, and adoration forever and ever. Amen.

Athanasius, quoted by Brother Victor-Antoine d'Avila-Latourrette in Blessings of the Table: Mealtime Prayers Throughout the Year.

We are the work of His hands -- our labor is a gift, let us give it with thanksgiving and honor God with the return.

He who sacrifices thank offerings honors me, and he prepares the way so that I may show him the salvation of God. Psalm 50:23

Selah.
