Quote for the day: John Adams on false niceness

Postmodern uses of language aren't so new, after all!

John Adams on "civility":

Be not intimidated... nor suffer yourselves to be wheedled out of your liberties by any pretense of politeness, delicacy, or decency. These, as they are often used, are but three different names for hypocrisy, chicanery and cowardice.

Interesting! Maybe the postmodern deceitful usage of words and language isn't new after all -- only recycled darkness.
