Easter green in gathering snow

Here is a picturesque patch of field that remains green during a sudden Easter snow. The rest of the scenery is covered in a couple inches of snow [and falling], and yet this field remains green! It only adds to the scene... :-) p.s. can anyone guess why the mystery field remains green? :-)

It's soybeans and the snow filters through?

Anonymous said...

No! that was a nice try though...

:-)

I should offer a five dollar prize for the right answer, lol. :-)

It's wheat that was planted in winter and is enjoying the cool moisture of the snow which will be critical to its full maturity.

How's that?

Nope! Nice guess AP, but both you and Lazy are keying on the crop... the answer relates not to the crop! hint: it relates more to the contour...

There, I've given a big hint, lol.

Loy
p.s. a five dollar prize for the first fully correct guess is hereby being announced, lol. :-)

Sunnee said...

It is the wind! Sweeping away the snow from the crest of the hill. (And I knew before you gave the hint.) :)

I think you are referring to the orientation of the crop to the sun - but if it wasn't wheat it would still be brown....

Anonymous said...

Ding, ding, ding! We have a winner! Sunnee... go to the head of the class, lol.

And AP: orientation of the crop to the sun? hmm... I think you were in the sun too long, lol.

The prevailing winds here are southerly -- blowing from north to south very strong and continual. The shape of the hill and the heavy windbreak planted on the crest form a natural wind-tunnel that flies the snow to the bottom! Very neat: in a full snow with the wind blowing a person can stand in this field and not get pummeled! :-)

So, Sunnee: you win a five-dollar prize! :-) How do you want this paid? pennies, dimes, nickels, quarters or dollars? grin, lol.

:-)

Just keep blogging! Your info and your pictures are a delight to me. I'll take my payment in enjoyment. But, thanks anyway.

No, really, Sunnee - you gotta make 'im pay - The gloating tyrant must pay his debts....

Anonymous said...

Thanks Sunnee! you are sweet... I'll keep blogging and hopefully you'll keep enjoying, lol.

As for AP -- he's just mad that his 'orientation to the sun' theory didn't work out, lol.

[insert mental image of a man with crazed eyes and mussed hair, staring at a field and shouting: Yes! this field is green because the orientation of the sun is equal to the hypotenuse squared times the sum of the parts of an isosceles triangle!]

That's Allen! :-)

I'll take her prize!
She's lived long enough in those snowy northern climes that she knows all about the wind and snow. So it wasn't really a fair playing field.

Anonymous said...

Ahh, yes! Thank you, LP -- See, it wasn't really fair. It's not my fault. I'm a victim here. In fact, I claim victimization of this contest and demand reparations equal to prize money...

long sigh.....

Yes, I am officially "northern climate deficient" I have NCD. I need medication. SOMEBODY PLEASE FIX MY PROBLEM!

Anonymous said...

lol! now that's some classic humor, AP, lol.

in fact -- that post alone is worth the transfer of the prize money from Sunnee to you!

So, I hereby make a Thoughts of Loy executive decision: the unclaimed prize money goes to a very NCD affected participant: AP!

:-)

Sunnee said...

Shouldn't I have some input in that decision? I was ok with just knowing the prize was mine for the taking...if ever I was destitute. I don't know if NCD really deserves that...:)

Anonymous said...

um... lol... well! Sunnee you make some really good points, lol.

And you did earn it the old-fashioned way: by getting the right answer...

So since the prize money is still unclaimed I reverse the former Thoughts of Loy executive decision, rendering it void with a new executive order to hold the prize winnings in trust pending the contingent need of the original recipient!

How's that?

:-)

p.s. AP: Laws of Medes and Persians and all that, lol -- can't be broken but it can sure be trumped by a new law, lol.

Anonymous said...

Laws of Medes and Persians, indeed!! There are no Medes/Persians - only a fickle king casting his straws into the wind.

Ughh! First I have it, then I don't - 'most enough to make a poor NCD peasant jump into the lion's den to escape the deep emotional instability...

... no, not yours - my own of course!!

PS Could we make this into a play or a good coloring book story??!?

"And the king could not sleep so he had the daily records brought to him..."

ok, ok! new executive decision from Thoughts of Loy: final answer, lol.

BOTH Sunnee and AP win!! Sunnee wins a provisional award and AP wins the same amount, too -- for intrepid effort above and beyond the call of duty... :-)

ROFLOL! Good showing! I vote for the coloring book editions.

Anonymous said...

Thank you, Purble Birpie - oops, sorry, Purple Birdie...

And I'm so glad "the king could not sleep"... somehow that gives me twisted comfort...

[NCD peasant stumbles into his bed of straw, crazed eyes, mussed hair and all, mumbling incoherently about the photographic orientation of the King of Persia who grows crops of wheat on snowy hillsides while his Median subjects suffer in the cold winter wind...]

Since we're handing out prizes randomly, shouldn't I get something for being courageous enough to go first?
In fact, I think the generosity of one's mother should extend to sharing the prize. What if I'm destitute?!
Medes, Persians, Coloring books, I think I should have some kind of "first publication rights" here.

You're 'avin a bobble mate, but it appears that your fine blog has been commandeered by a lot of barmy folks!

Anonymous said...

argghhh! I'm going crazy here, lol.

Everyone's making a good case for the prize money -- not to mention royalties from the comic book edition, lol.

Lazy's got a good point: perhaps we should have some fine print about sharing the prize, lol.

As the Good Book says, "Oh what great fire a green field kindleth!" oh, or maybe it was "A word fitly spoken is like fields of green in settings of silver..." er, uh...

Time for me to go to bed, lol.

Merry Easter to all and to all a good night!

[p.s. I blame the snow for making a white Easter -- that's what started it all, lol! :-)]

In honor of LP's birthday today - I hereby relinquish all claimed rights to any prize monies both now and forever from this site, and do also bequeath my royalties from the plays and coloring books hereby inspired.

Happy Birthday!

If only I could relive the past! I would claim my prize--in the form of a case of Dr. Pepper brought to camp... But now I can never stem the tide of what I have unleashed...
Seriously, "the leave no child behind" idea which also gave the prize to Mr. NCD,would indicate giving the same prize to all contestants.Loy, are you sure you want to give any prize? :)

Anonymous said...

Lo, it is erstwhile written: "Dr. Pepper covereth a multitude of sins!" Especially for some people, lol.

Or, er... maybe I'm getting my translations mixed up, lol. I think the point is that Dr. Pepper can be arranged, in the provisional clause of the prize!

And, Mr. NCD: don't be too hasty to renounce all prizes from Thoughts of Loy! lol

And Sunnee: Funny funny, your 'no child left behind' summation! :-)

And Lazy: Happy B-day! perhaps this discussion gave some humor for your day, lol.

hey, thanks for the comment! I love them! I actually found the picture on google. I think I should have cited it? The cite is at the bottom here.
The poem was me as a kid alone and crying in my room waiting for someone to come and hold me...but it never happened..but now I dont cry alone. :)
